About

The Philly Free Skool is a decentralized, non-hierarchical, sexy project run by a group of volunteers. We are actually not so much a skool (or school) persay, but more an outreach program for the much larger free skool activities that are already going on in our wonderful city. Every month we print and distribute a calendar listing all of the amazing free skool/skill share/non-hierarchical learning projects that are already going on in Philadelphia. We also provide training, support, and advice for people who are interested in facilitating a free skool class.

For more information, or if there is a class or workship  or other learning project that you would like us to add to our calendar, email us at learn@phillyfreeskool.org.

Values Statement

In keeping with the idea that everyone can teach and learn we only hold and promote classes that are non-discriminatory and free. Some classes might be closed to certain participants to allow discussions to occur that perhaps would not otherwise, such as a women’s group that asks men not to come, and some class facilitators may ask for money to cover the cost of materials, such as a workshop where participants learn to make something. All of the classes associated with the Philly Free Skool, however, strive to empower each of the participants and in turn the communities they are a part of.

To achieve this goal, the Philly Free Skool will not provide outreach for classes or events that discriminate against, or promote the discrimination of, a person or group based on their sex, gender, race, class, age, etc.

The members of the collective also strive to be transparent in our decision making and to advertise our meetings in various mediums to encourage others to join us in attempting to create a more habitable world.
